Shell
The Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, better known simply as Shell, has grown out of an alliance made in 1907 between Royal Dutch Petroleum Company in the Netherlands and the Shell Transport and Trading Company plc in the UK.
Today, Shell has five core businesses: Exploration & Production, Oil Products, Chemicals, Downstream Gas & Power and Renewables. It operates in more than 140 countries world wide and has become the world's foremost leader in the gas industry.
Shell Global Solutions International (SGSI), a division of Shell, is constantly seeking new, innovative and cost effective ways to deliver energy to end users. SGSI funded part of the research and development of the CryoCell® Technology at Curtin University of Technology under the leadership of Professor Robert Amin, from 2003 to 2005. As a result of SGSI's interest and involvement, in June, 2005, Cool Energy and SGSI signed an Agreement to share technical information and respective patents on a royalty free basis. It was also agreed to share new developments and improvements to the technology over the coming years. The Agreement sets out the size of gas field developments in which the two companies may employ the technology.
Shell Technology Ventures Fund 1 BV (STV Fund 1), also a division of Shell, seeks out investment opportunities in a wide variety of companies developing innovative, leverageable technologies for the upstream sector of the Oil & Gas industry. Shell Technology Ventures became a significant shareholder in Cool Energy in December 2005 by investing $5 million in the company. The investment follows a technology sharing and development agreement signed with Shell Global Solutions International BV in June 2005.
