Xyris Demonstration Site
The CryoCell® CO2 capture technology is currently in operation at Cool Energy's Demonstration Site located at the Xyris site in the Perth Basin. Testing of the technology was successfully completed in August 2007. The Xyris site and facilities are owned by Australian Worldwide Exploration Limited (AWE).
The purpose of the demonstration was to move from laboratory tests of 200,000 standard cubic feet per day (scfd) to 2 million scfd (10 times larger). The field trial was designed to verify the CO2 separation capability of the CryoCell® technology under field operating conditions.
The design of the plant was finished in March 2005, it was fabricated during the second half of 2005 and installed and commissioned during the first half of 2006.
Following commissioning, Cool Energy carried out intensive testing from June 2006 through to the end of 2007 on gas compositions containing a range of CO2 concentrations from 3.5% up to 60%.
Since completion of the tests the plant has been regularly used for customer demonstrations. Further testing began in 2009.
During this time Cool and AWE have developed a great working relationship, and we would like to thank AWE for their help in achieving the successful outcomes of the test program. As a result of this, and the desire to carry out more tests, the site agreement between Cool and AWE has been extended to enable further trials to be carried out.
